An evolution of Game Arts' prior work on the popular Lunar series, Grandia featured pseudo real-time battles in which both positioning and timing factored into success. Fittingly, the third track on the OST was titled 'Delightful Adventure.' But it wasn't just about the feels, as Grandia's battle system drew accolades, too. Grandia die-hards agree: The game was simply bursting with heart, drawing you into a simple but emotional tale before you could even object. Its plot sounded like the most typical of JRPG tropes - a young boy and girl set out from their humble village in search of adventure, and end up drawn into world-changing, cataclysmic events - but the execution set it apart. The biggest reason a generation of RPG players remember Grandia so fondly was its impeccable sense of lighthearted-yet-earnest adventure. (Nintendo fans will be happy to hear that both games are already available on Switch, as Grandia HD Collection.) So RPG fans take note: GungHo Online Entertainment America just finished remastering Grandia and its Dreamcast sequel to create Grandia HD Remaster and Grandia II HD Remaster, and this one-two RPG punch is gonna hit Steam in just a few weeks.

Did it deliver? Its numerous fans sure thought so, and in 2000 IGN itself ranked Grandia's later Sony PlayStation port as the 17th best PlayStation game of all time.
